Historical Walking Tours

The Piermont History Society has designed an amazing walking tour for visitors who are interested in seeing a number of historical spots in Piermont, including the Flywheel, Train Station and more. The walk centers on 10 historic sites, including five of the nine in Piermont that are on the National Register of Historic Places. This is not an in-person guided tour - so you can walk and take in the sites at your own pace! Follow this link to get started:

Flywheel Park

Flywheel Park is right in downtown Piermont, NY and is home to the town's special events, festivals and, of course, the famous Flywheel. The stubborn Flywheel is a tribute to Piermont's rich industrial history. Installed in 1902 as part of the Piermont Paper Company’s steam driven electrical system, the Flywheel powered through nearly a century paper-making until the paper company closed in 1982. Upon demolition, the Flywheel could not be destroyed (they say the wrecking ball bounced off of it!) and so it was left in place as a monument.

The Souk

Be sure to visit "The Souk" at the OUTSIDE IN, an ARTefact gallery offering a diverse collection of fine art, craft, found objects & unusual plantings. Hudson Valley artists & artisans are well represented, and the market is right in the heart of Piermont! The "Souk" is a spin on traditional markets, featuring food and artisan vendors in a gallery / greenhouse for customers to shop, linger and eat. Open Sundays, from 11:00am - 3:00pm.

The Piermont Pier

The Piermont Pier is right next to the marina and it stretches about a mile into the Hudson River. The pier, built in the 19th century to accommodate river traffic and used during World War II as an embarkation point for troops heading to Europe, is visible from the Tappan Zee Bridge. Piermont Pier, open year-round, provides anglers access to the deeper water off the banks of the river.

Tallman Mountain State Park

Tallman Mountain State Park comprises wooded country on the easterly slope of the Palisades uplands overlooking the Hudson River and Piermont Marsh, which lies between the river and the slope. The marsh is part of the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. The park has hundreds of acres to explore and offers a running track, tennis courts, playfield, cross country skiing, a walking trail, hiking trails a bike path and picnic areas with grills.

Tallman Beach and Pool Club

Tallman Beach and Pool Club is located in Tallman Mountain State Park and offers guests access to its swimming pool, showers, beach front and restaurant! Day and season passes are available for anyone looking to spend the day poolside, so plan a visit to beat the heat at this riverside beauty.

The Old Erie Railroad Path

Visit this old railroad line connecting NJ with Nyack! The old railroad path is now a re-purposed hiking and biking trail. Set above Piermont, with access by the Old Train Station, it provides an easy and flat trail without vehicles and with scenic views.

The Piermont Train Station and Museum

Visit the Piermont Train Station and Museum! The Train Station was built in 1873 and is on the National Historic Register. Recently restored and turned in a museum, the Piermont Train Station offers a host of great exhibits for visitors to enjoy. This museum is only open every other Sunday from May - October, so be sure to check the schedule before your visit.
